Summer is here at Sunflower Preschool! Each day we emphasize the simple joys of summer: water play, gardening, walks, outdoor projects and child-directed exploration of our multi-dimensional play areas and gardens.
This summer Sunflower Preschool children will enjoy:
– Planting and harvesting lettuce, kale, radishes, tomatoes, and carrots that will be ready to eat by September.
– Splish splashing in the pool and running through the sprinklers.
– Hands-on water exploration with our brand new water table (thanks Sunflower parents for this gift!)
– Eating delicious treats including Popsicles, blueberries and watermelon.
– Lunch on the front grass and berm and morning snacks on our deck.
– Garden tours – kids actually get to pick herbs, veggies, fruit, and flowers in the summer!
– Sandbox-play with our unique drip hose system.
– Art projects: potpourri and bouquet making from our flowers in the garden, nature weaving, making bird houses and bug boxes, and harvesting herbs.
– Playing in the…. MUD (a favorite!)
– Frequent walks to Martin Park.
– Observing critters in the yard: ladybugs, butterflies that come for the milkweed, pill bugs, and ants.
– Dramatic play in the playground: taking “hikes” and “camping.”
– Time each day to enjoy our indoor classroom. Summer themes include bugs and insects, and ocean creatures!
Each summer we also welcome many new children and their families to our school. There are so many opportunities to make new friends. Here’s to a summer filled with play and exploration!
